West BS Limited Celebrating 40 Years

West BS Ltd origins go back to 1971 when Chris West and his brother-in-law Mike Heaton bought Johnson and Son an old established ironmongers and hardware store on Manor Street Bridlington.

Chris West, whose father had sold West and Gardam, a builders merchant in Bridlington and Driffield to Grahams in 1965, wanted to expand into this field and bought Willoughbys in 1975, a timber and DIY business operating out of a Methodist church on St John Street.
The trade side of the business under the new name of West and Heaton was transferred to the newly acquired premises.  Plumbing and glass supplies were developed following the purchase of adjacent properties to the church and the building of a new warehouse and showroom for bathrooms and kitchens.
Thirteen years later Bridlington Timber Co Ltd was bought along with further warehousing on Stepney Grove.

The expansion of the company over the next 10 years led to the sale of Stepney Grove for housing and a move into 55,000 sq ft of warehousing and yard space, the old Riggs printing works, purchased from the council.
At this time in 1998 Mike Heaton retired and West Building Supplies Ltd was formed.

The company has over 35 employees and is a staunch member of the Builders Merchants Federation. It runs a fleet of 5 delivery vehicles and offers probably the most comprehensive stocks of materials in East and North Yorkshire. The showrooms, again the largest in the area have recently been refurbished. The staff are all highly trained and many are ex tradesmen who can give expert advice and guidance when required.
